Waterfronts

A grouping of works oriented around water and the built or natural edges where land meets sea, canal, or harbour. The pieces gathered here range from the Ligurian coastline, with views of Manarola and Riomaggiore, to the canals and grand waterways of Venice, taking in quieter moments such as a gondola on still green water or a lone sail against an open sea. The Parisian quayside appears as well, in an evening view of the Pont Alexandre III.

Taken together, the works trace a recurring interest in light at transitional hours, particularly dusk and morning, and in the particular atmosphere that water lends to a scene, whether the purple cast of an evening surf, the warm glow settling over the Grand Canal, or the fresh clarity of a Burano morning. The collection moves between the intimate and the panoramic, from a harbour framed by coloured houses to an expanse of open sea with a single sail on the horizon.
